Zanzibar has been experiencing some problems with the electricity supply since 10th Dec 2009.
Full power returned to the Islands on 8th March 2010, with some power sharing anticipated in the near future.
We are proud to say that throughout this period, Mbweni Ruins Hotel has given on average 16 hours a day generator power to the guests.
We anticipate that we will continue to do so, and to stay open all year round as usual.
In order to assist families in these difficult times we have raised our child rate to apply for young people of 7-16 years inclusive.
Children aged 0-6 stay free on Bed & Breakfast basis

Set in botanic gardens by the ocean,
the hotel is 10 minutes from Stone Town or from the Airport but is an oasis of peace to return to after your busy day.
Prices are reasonable and the emphasis is on giving you good value while maintaining high standards of service.

Mbweni offers accommodation for no more than 30 guests.
All the rooms are air-conditioned, with ceiling fans and louvred windows to the balcony.
They are furnished in exotic Zanzibar style
and every room has views of the Indian Ocean and of the gardens.
The crystal clear fresh water pool, enfolded by the lush gardens lies on the edge of the beach, between the rooms and the restaurant
where traditional spicy foods and a panoply of seafood delicacies
await the discerning diner.

The jetty passes through the mangroves (you can borrow the hotel kayak to explore them!) to the sea
- making embarkation to Chumbe Island and other boats much easier! We can offer trips to the sandbanks,
to stone town or to the islands nearby, on request.
The Mangrove Bar perches over the ocean,
perfect for that evening drink while you watch the sunset!
Or the older Sundowner Bar (rhs) next to the Raintree Restaurant, offers a comfortable and shady venue for meeting friends.

We offer many exciting activities including dhow trips to the islets and sandbanks opposite the hotel, swimming, fishing, diving, snorkelling,
a nature trail and visits to see the spice plantations, stone town and to swim with dolphins.
These Zanzibar tours can easily be arranged by our reception staff after you arrive in Zanzibar.
Or just relax on the beach, great for swimming at high tide.
The Bustani Spa (Bustani means "Garden") offers many exciting pampering treatments such as Aromatherapy, Facials, Beauty Treatments
and much more in two beautiful rooms set in the old Ruins.

There are no phones or TVs in the room, to allow you peace. But we do have an Internet Cafe in the main reception area.
